View of Waterloo Bridge and Kingsway Tram Tunnel entrance, Victoria Embankment, Westminster. A splendid, busy scene, taken soon after it was opened. Originally built for single decker trams, the tunnel floor was lowered to take double decker trams between 1929 and 1931. The bridge is the original Waterloo Bridge designed by John Rennie and opened in 1817 but demolished in 1937. Two horse-drawn goods wagons can be seen crossing it. A single deck tram, number 578, is crossing the traffic en route to Tower Bridge, whilst double deck trams, numbers 443 and 289, en route to 'Embankment via Westminster' and 'Blackwall Tunnel via Old Kent Road', repectively, wait. A Unic motor taxi, with pram hood, waits. at the 'Beware Cars Crossing' sign, alongside a horse-drawn cab and a light carriage. Various pedestrians in a range of headware from flat caps to top hats populate the scene, some in grave danger of being knocked over. Policemen and tram inspectors are also in evidence and there are interesting teardrop street lights.
