Title
John Lewis department store in Oxford Street
Description
John Lewis & Company, Oxford Street, Westminster. Originally established in 1864 at 132 Oxford Street as a drapery shop and rebuilt in 1953 following bomb damage in World War II. The larger department store was built at 300 Oxford Street. The window display here shows female mannequins in nightwear and a house coat and slips with lace detail jauntily posed. Heeled shoes are stacked on the right. A tablet above the shop commemorates the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887.
