Nazareth House in Hammersmith Road
Description
View of Nazareth House Children’s Home and Convent, 169-175 Hammersmith Road, Hammersmith, fronted by a high brick wall. The first Nazareth House opened in Hammersmith in 1857, on what was then known as King Street East. It was run by Roman Catholic nuns who would become known as the Sisters of Nazareth. The children who lived there were brought up within the Roman Catholic religion. The children’s home at Hammersmith finally closed in 1981. However, the convent and building still survive, and the Sisters nowadays run a care home for elders.
