Lamorbey School, Burnt Oak Lane, Sidcup: administration block
Description
Originally known as the Sidcup Children’s Home by the Greenwich and Deptford Board of Guardians when it opened in 1902, it later was called the Sidcup Residential School. It was built in the cottage homes model, where children were looked after in family sized group homes run by house parents. There were 25 houses, all named after trees. They were arranged round a green with the relevant tree planted in front of each house. There was accommodation for 335 children, aged 2 to 15 years old. There was also a gymnasium and a swimming pool. In 1930 when the London County Council (L.C.C.) took over it was re-named Lamorbey Residential School. In 1950, it was re-named The Hollies and closed in 1989.
