Title
Mile End Hospital: nurses make a bed.
Description
This image shows Assistant Nurses creating hospital corners, by folding and tucking the sheet in a precise way. The corners hold the bottom sheet securely in place to avoid wrinkles which placed the patient at risk of bed sores. The upper bedclothes are folded precisely over the back of two chairs to keep them off the floor. Hospital bedmaking is recognised as a blend of practical necessity and institutional ritual.
