View of Whitecross Street
Description
Illustration from "Cripplegate Ward" by J.J. Baddeley (1921), showing view of Whitecross Street, looking south probably from just beyond the turning into Chapel Street (left, out of view), City of London. The warehouses in the foreground stand on the bridge over the Metropolitan Railway, and were occupied by an Australian merchant, blouse and ladies’ shirt makers, leather manufacturers, among others. The grand frontage on the right, beyond the bridge, belongs to the Midland Railway Goods Depot. The buildings in the distance are in Fore Street, just to the left of St Giles Cripplegate. People and horse-drawn carriages are in view.
