Boundary Street: slum housing.
Description
Boundary Street: slum housing.

This image is one of many which captures how some of the poorest people lived in Victorian London. Many came looking for work and ended up in crowded, squalid conditions, but accommodation varied.

The late nineteenth century saw an increased awareness of the evils of poverty, disease and crime, and efforts to address these problems included replacing the slum housing seen here.
