Description
A view, looking eastwards, of the corner of Haggerston Street and Denne Terrace, Haggerston. Haggerston Road runs from left to right and crosses The Regent's Canal. On the left stands a two-storey building with the Maxwell Laundry on the ground floor. The window displays opening times and the prices for bagwashes. A woman in a white coat stands in the doorway of the laundry talking to another woman. Number 2 Denne Terrace is a two-storey building with a shop on the ground floor; a man in a bowler hat stands on the pavement. The shop window has ads for Dunlop Champion and Cruiser tyre; learner plates and cycle lamps are also for sale. A sign on the wall advertises a service for charging wireless accumulators and cycle repairs. A large poster advertises Beechams Powders. The other buildings on Denne Terrace are two-storey houses with iron railings, at the end of the terrace the houses on Queensbridge Road can be seen. A brick wall flanks the canal and the bridges crossing it, a factory chimney and industrial buildings occupy the background. The buildings shown were destroyed by bombs during World War II and replaced by social housing blocks.
