Title
Vintry House in Queen Street Place
Description
View of front entrance doorway to Vintry House, Queen Street Place, City of London. An Art Deco building completed in 1930, it was demolished in the 1980s; it had been earmarked for reduction for many years as it infringed on the St Paul's Cathedral heights limit. The tympanum sculpture, 'The Spirit of the Grape', was modelled by Leopoldine Avico. She and her sisters, Gilda and Marietta, were all artists' and sculptors' models and are to be found in and around London. One of Leopoldine's most famous sculptures is 'The Queen of Time' at Selfridges. For more information, see book 'The Women who Inspired London Art'.
