Description
View from the junction of Dean Street (later Garth Street and now the site of King Edward Memorial Park) and Bell Wharf of derelict buildings and the yard behind Charrington's Seabourne Coal Wharf, Ratcliffe, Stepney. Charrington, Sells, Dale & Co were coal and coke merchants and briquette (a block of compressed coal dust) manufacturers. On the right are the tall wooden coal screens and bins of the wharf. The derelict warehouses were redeveloped and became part of an extended Free Trade Wharf before eventually being demolished in the early 1980s for the Free Trade Wharf residential development.
