Title
Buildings in Davies Street
Description
Buildings at 75-81 Davies Street, Mayfair, on the corner with Weighhouse Street. A block of shops and chambers which were erected in 1890–1 in conjunction with an electrical generating station. The Westminster Electric Supply Corporation, built a power station on the corner of Davies and Robert Street (now Weighhouse Street). It closed in 1922 and although the premises were subsequently used as a garage, the chimney survived until the recent demolition of the whole block, around 1978. Photograph shows signs for 'Esso' and for 'Lashmars Theatre Tickets' and the 'Cafe Europa', and pedestrians walking on the pavements.
