Title
Drinking fountain in King Street
Description
This drinking fountain is situated on the south side of King Street, Hammersmith, at the corner of Weltje Road in front of Palingswick House. It is a memorial fountain and dog trough made from polished grey granite. It was erected in March 1888, the gift of Mrs Swaab in memory of S.L. Swaab Esq. The inscription reads "His knowledge like a spring of refreshing water flowing ever during life for the relief of suffering". The fountain is not operational, though there have been local campaigns to restore it to working order. Behind the fountain can be seen a telephone box and a block of public toilets with a woman looking at the photographer. The toilet block has since been converted into an Italian restaurant.
