Title
Oxo Tower Wharf in Barge House Street
Description
View of the Oxo Tower Wharf on Barge House Street, Bankside, from the river. The building was originally constructed as a power station but was bought and extended by the Liebig Extract of Meat Company in the 1920s who got around the ban on skyline advertising by building the iconic "OXO" tower windows. A large sign along the top of the building reads "Welcome to Coin Street-Homes and Jobs-A Community Victory". The building on the left is Sea Containers House which was designed by noted American Modernist architect Warren Platner in 1974 as a luxury hotel but was opened in 1978 as offices. On the right is Southbank Tower King's Reach Tower which was completed in 1972.
