Description
Secretary's Room at The Treasury, Downing Street, City of Westminster. The Treasury Buildings include the Privy Council Office and Cabinet Office. It incorporates the remains of Henry VIII's Whitehall Palace, Dorset House 1700-10, William Kent's Treasury 1733-36, Privy Council and Cabinet Offices 1824-27 by Sir John Soane, remodelled and altered as the Treasury 1845-47 by Sir Charles Barry. All are in use as government offices. A four-storey building with balustraded parapet, it is Grade I listed, number 1267063. Stone arched windows overlook the garden of 10 Downing Street, the lower part with opaque glass. Furniture includes a small table with filing trays marked 'IN' and 'OUT', a roll-top desk with many cubby holes, books and papers, a leather chair and two armchairs. To the right is a telephone and two antelope skulls with horns sit on a wall shelf. In 1927 the Prime Minister was Conservative Stanley Baldwin.
