Description
View of 45-52 Bankside. On the left at number 45-46 is Imperial Wharf. Next, with a lorry parked in front at number 47-48, is British Lion Wharf which was the headquarters of Willcox Hoses. The tall white building, number 49, is Cardinal's Wharf. Next is the entrance to Cardinal Cap Alley with the street lamp above it and bollard in front of it. The alley still exists but was gated at the northern end in 1989. In the centre are numbers 50 and 52. They were originally built as three dwellings in 1712, but were damaged during the Blitz and reduced to two. Number 50 was renamed "Provost's Lodging" in the twentieth century with the future Bishop of Salisbury, George Reindorp, living there for a while. Number 49, and the railing outside, was Grade II listed in 1950, listing number 1376548. Numbers 50 and 52 were also Grade II listed in 1950, listing number 1376549.
