Title
Buildings in Dolben Street
Description
View of front elevations of 42-45 Dolben Street, Southwark, seen from Gambia Street. Eighteenth-century terrace of three-storey brick buildings at numbers 42-44 Dolben Street, ending on the left in a two-storey building with a tiled gable roof at nunber 45. A Ford Anglia is parked in front of the properties. Originally called George Street, its construction in 1776 was part of a development of the area following the erection of Blackfriars Bridge in 1769. The Street was renamed Dolben Street in 1911 after the seventeenth-century archbishop John Dolben. The houses survive to this day, and are now known as Thompson House, after the company housed within.
