Description
The south side of King Street, Westminster. The only building which has survived is the Golden Lion public house which can be seen towards the right. It is Grade II listed; listing number 1221553. To the far right of the picture is the St James's Theatre. It opened in 1835 and was demolished in 1957. At the time of the photograph Terence Rattigan's play Separate Tables was being performed. It premiered on 22nd September 1954 and had a run of 726 performances, the longest in the history of the St James's. The building to the left is a block of offices called Almack House, erected in 1949-50, which has been replaced by a modern building with the same name. Cars are parked on both sides of the street.
