Title
Houses in Newington Crescent
Description
Front elevations of houses on Newington Crescent, Walworth, likely numbers 1-8. The first occupant of number 8 was Henry Jarvis, the architect, notable for designing many Victorian Gothic churches in Southwark. The crescent was built in 1834-35, and the terraced houses have basements, iron railings, balconies at first-floor level and steps to front doors. Two perambulators are left on the pavement. Newington Crescent was demolished at some point in the mid-twentieth century, and became the site of Newington Estate, a Southwark Council social housing development still extant in 2021.
