A view of the front elevation of an end-terrace house in Stalham Street, Paddington, off Westbourne Terrace North, now Bourne Terrace. To the right are the side elevation of 23 Westbourne Terrace North and the rear elevations of numbers 23-29 (odd) Westbourne Terrace North. A small shop in between houses a boot repairer, F. Tuffs, charging 2s 6d to sole and heel men's shoes and 1s 6d for women's. The houses no longer exist. A wide area was cleared about 1914 to build Senior Street School, now Edward Wilson School. Number 23 Westbourne Terrace North carries many advertisements including for Yorkshire Relish, the Great Northern Railway (GNR) for travel to Harrogate, the Great Eastern Railway for travel to the east coast of England, and Pink's jams. One poster for the Metropolitan, a theatre/cinema in Edgware Road, advertises film of a fight between heavyweight boxers Bombardier Wells and Georges Carpentier. Wells is a reference William Thomas "Billy" Wells (1889-1967), famous for having struck the gong at the start of J. Arthur Rank films. He fought Frenchman Georges Carpentier in Ghent, Belgium on 1 June 1913 for the European championship and the poster is advertising a film of the bout three weeks later. Carpentier won the fight. The poster also advertises appearances by performers including child act Coverdale's Nine Dainty Dots, with which singer Gracie Fields performed as a teenager before she was famous, as well as comedian Ernie Mayne and performing collies in Duncan's Dogs. The Empire Theatre Kilburn advertises a production of The Prince and the Beggar Maid, which was on tour at the time after its transfer from the Lyceum Theatre.
