House and shop in Sclater Street
Description
View of front elevation of house and Palmers shop at 70 Sclater Street, Bethnal Green. Seed and Grain is advertised above the door and in the shop window pictures of fish and fishnets fill the window. These brick-built weavers’ tenement houses were constructed 1718-20 and form the last remnant of a terrace. They are of three storeys and a cellar, with staircases to the front. Each floor comprises one room which served as both a working and living space. Number 70 was refronted in 1777 and is subtly different from its neighbours. These buildings still exist.
