Title
Rear view of Lowden Road
Description
Rear view of back gardens of 16-24 Lowden Road, Herne Hill. Also visible is the back garden wall and broken fencing of the houses on Fawnbrake Avenue that runs parallel. Debris and building materials sit in the back yards. The two-storey terraced houses in Lowden Road were refurbished by the Greater London Council in 1968-9. Originally built in the 1870s as part of the Milkwood Estate, developed in response to the coming of the railway. Nearby Herne Hill Station was opened in 1862 by the London, Chatham & Dover Railway.
