Houses in Loughborough Park
Description
View of 12-22 Loughborough Park, Brixton. Loughborough Park is named after Henry Hastings, first Baron Loughborough, who leased the Manor of Lambeth Wick in the seventeenth century when it was mainly pasture and market gardening. The development of Loughborough Park dates from between 1844 and 1857 when Lady Holland granted building leases; the Holland family having held the lease since 1701. Henry Currey is likely to have been the architect who also designed St Thomas's Hospital, and the builder was Edwin Heritage. The open triangle space between Coldharbour Lane and Loughborough Park was a tennis club and the houses were aimed at the middle classes. Numbers 14-16 and 18-20 are a pair of mid nineteenth-century two-storey semi-detached houses, with decorative moulding around the window architraves. The roof pediment is decorated with scrolls and a wreath. Numbers 20-22 are a pair of mid nineteenth-century two-storey houses, with a central porch and decorative mouldings around the window architraves. They are Grade II listed, number 1320330.
