Title
Houses on Brixton Hill
Description
These large nineteenth-century houses at 160-172 Brixton Hill, Brixton, were replaced by Briscoe Buildings around the time of this photograph on the Brixton Hill Estate. The Briscoe housing estate was in part to serve workers in the local area at Brixton Prison and Lambeth Water Works, but also attracted workers from further afield with the improved transport connections to the area and views over Rush Common. This was later pulled down and replaced with Renton Close. Tram lines are visible on the road and the street is lined with trees and iron railings.
