View of 27-33 St Ann's Villas, Notting Hill, looking south from the corner of Swanscombe Road. St Ann's Villas runs south from St James' Gardens to Royal Crescent. The street was built as part of the Norland Estate laid out by Robert Cantwell. It consists of pairs of three-storey semi-detached houses with basements in Tudor Gothic style. Built in 1852 in red brick with blue diapering, in differing designs. Stone mullioned windows, and steps leading up to the porch. Numbers 27-29 are Grade II listed, number 1265826, and numbers 31-33 are Grade II listed, number 1226515. In 1861 these were numbered 13-16. At number 13 lived Joseph Braithwaite listed as 'Gentleman', his wife Clara and two servants. Number 14 was occupied by Charles Dyer, an inspector of schools, his wife Clara, two daughters and two servants. Number 15 was occupied by Edward Ansell, an Officer of Chancery, his wife Mary, their two children, Mary's mother, and two servants. At number 16 lived widow Emily Cory with her son Madox, a 'Colonial Broker Salesman' and a servant.
