Title
House in St Mary Abbot's Terrace
Description
Front elevation of 47 St Mary Abbot's Terrace, Kensington. On the north side of Kensington High Street and built in the mid-nineteenth century. Named after the Abbey of St Mary at Abingdon, owners of the land from the twelfth century to the Reformation. The land was developed by Lord Holland, and St Mary Abbot's Terrace consisted of three terraces of 49 dwellings, each pair of houses linked by connecting wings. Built by Henry Harrison and William Woods, the terraces were demolished in the early 1960s to make way for the new St Mary Abbots Terrace and Kenbrook House housing development. A three-storey house with basement, flanked by two-storey entrance bay, with a parapet above the porch. Second-floor windows with cast-iron guards. In 1911 this was the residence of Lizzie Voysey, living on private means, and her two children.
