Title
Demolition on Finck Street
Description
View of demolition of 15-23 Finck Street, Lambeth. This area was badly damaged by bombing during World War II. The two-storey terraced houses with basements were demolished for the development of the St Thomas's Estate, which also involved re-aligning Lambeth Palace Road and constructing ancillary buildings for St Thomas' Hospital. On the site now is a modern block of student accommodation. The high-rise building is York House; an office block built in 1964. On the right is a three-storey, octagonal Courage Brewery pub called The Pillbox at 199 Westminster Bridge Road, latterly known as The Florence Nightingale. This site is now a hotel.
