Houses in Durand Gardens
Description
37-45 Durand Gardens, Lambeth. This semi-oval shaped enclave set around enclosed gardens in the centre was developed in the nineteenth century. A mixture of two- and three-storey houses with arch-headed sash windows, net curtains, tiled roofs and chimneys and some with attic windows. Entrance porches have Doric pilasters and entablature surround. Steps lead up to the doorway and a box hedge lines the boundary of the properties. Two iron lamp posts are in view and cars and a van are parked on the road. A tree pokes out from the central garden and over the houses in the distance. A road sign for schoolchildren crossing is on the corner.
