Description
229 Gipsy Road, Lambeth, at the corner of Hamilton Road. The building was formerly the Hamilton Road Post Office and was later replaced by the wine merchants Valentine Charles Ltd. Sash windows with window boxes and curtains, with accommodation on the upper floors. Fry's Pure Cocoa Chocolate is advertised on the front window and Whisky advertised on the side window with a side entrance nearby. A central lantern hangs in the doorway. Another sign on the corner-edge of the building advertises the brewers Ind. Coope & Co and their Romford Ales. The photograph is dated 25th May 1898 and taken by S.B. Bolas (Samuel Brittain Bolas, who had a studio on Oxford Street and specialised in architectural photography).
