Front elevation of 12-22 St Ann's Villas, Notting Hill. St Ann's Villas runs south from St James' Gardens to Royal Crescent. The street was built as part of the Norland Estate laid out by Robert Cantwell. Pairs of three-storey semi-detached houses with basements in Tudor Gothic style. Built in 1852 in red brick with blue diapering, in differing designs. Stone mullioned windows and steps leading up to the porch. Number 12 and 14 are Grade II listed, number 1226516, numbers 16-18 Grade II listed, number 1265827, numbers 20-22 Grade II listed, number 1265828. In 1861 these were numbered 1-6, the occupant of number 1 was John Smith a tailor who employed three men, his wife Mary, their three children and a servant. In the 1950s it was the vicarage of St James's Church in nearby St James's Gardens. Other occupants of the houses included an operative chemist, a Royal Navy Captain, a 'fundholder', a banker’s clerk, and a ‘Proprietor of Houses’. Most families had resident servants. Two men are in conversation on the pavement and two cars are parked on the street.
