Description
Front elevation of 16-18 St Ann's Villas, Notting Hill. St Ann's Villas runs south from St James' Gardens to Royal Crescent. The street was built as part of the Norland Estate laid out by Robert Cantwell. Three-storey semi-detached houses with basements in Tudor Gothic style. Built in 1852 in red brick with blue diapering. Stone mullioned windows and steps leading up to the porch. They are Grade II listed, number 1265827. In 1861 they were numbers 3-4, number 3 occupied by Royal Navy Captain James Hutchison, his wife Francis, three daughters and a son who was a clerk at The Admiralty, and one servant. Number 4 was occupied by widow Ann Carruthers born in Canada who was a 'fundholder' and lived with three servants.
