View of Ovington Square
View of 2-6 Ovington Square, Kensington. These houses were built by William Willmer Pocock from 1844 to 1850 for Elizabeth Standerwick; also known as Baroness Von Zandt. A typical nineteenth-century stucco terrace with many interesting architectural features including Doric columns at the open porches, a stone balustrade at the first floor and iron railings. Numbers 2 and 4 have an extra, modern storey on the roofline. A motor bike is parked by the side wall of 10 Ovington Mews; the mews can be seen on image number 85882. A pile of cardboard boxes is on the pavement; one of the boxes is clearly from a food processor but it is hard to say whether this is a pile of rubbish waiting for collection or if it is somebody’s belongings as they are moving in or out of a flat. Two dangling wires seem to be connecting a television aerial on the roof to separate flats. There is a boot scraper by the door of number 6 which is still there to present day.
