Description
View of 2-8 Palace Gate, Kensington, with 2 on the left, 8 on the right, and the gable end of Thorney Court on the extreme left with very high chimneys. 2 Palace Gate is Grade II listed; listing number 1065933. It was designed in 1878 by P. C. Hardwick for the Pre-Raphaelite artist Sir John Everett Millais. It has a Blue Plaque commemorating ‘Sir John Everett Millais (1829-1896) Painter, lived and died here’. A grand house with many large windows, Doric and Ionic columns, iron railings, and stone balustrades at pavement level and on the roofline. Now occupied by The Zambian High Commission; in 1969 it was the Pakistan High Commission Annexe. 4 Palace Gate is Grade II listed; listing number 1066005. Built in 1873 by E. Salomons and J. P. Jones, and now occupied by the Korean Consulate. Both buildings have flagpoles. 6 and 6a Palace Gate, both in the same building, built c1875 is also Grade II listed; listing number 1357456. 8 Palace Gate is Grade II listed; listing number 1066010. Built in 1873 by J. J. Stevenson. A man in a bowler hat and carrying two bags is walking towards the camera in the distance, and another man near the Volkswagen Beetle is walking and reading a newspaper.
