View of 2 Palace Gate, Kensington, with Thorney Court on the left and 4 Palace Gate on the right. 2 Palace Gate is Grade II listed; listing number 1065933. It was designed in 1878 by P. C. Hardwick for the Pre-Raphaelite artist Sir John Everett Millais. It has a Blue Plaque commemorating ‘Sir John Everett Millais (1829-1896) Painter, lived and died here’. A grand house with many large windows, Doric and Ionic columns, iron railings, and stone balustrades at pavement level and on the roofline. Now occupied by the Zambian High Commission; in 1969 it was the Pakistan High Commission Annexe and the insignia of a crescent moon and star can be seen above the entrance. There are three cars parked on the road; a sports car with no top at all, not even a windscreen, a Volkswagen Beetle, and a Rolls Royce. The Rolls Royce, number plate XLE 644, can also be seen on image number 85807. 4 Palace Gate is Grade II listed; listing number 1066005. It was built in 1873 by E. Salomons and J. P. Jones, and is now occupied by the Korean Consulate. Both buildings have flagpoles.
