Description
View of 1a Palace Gate, Kensington. Built c1898 by architect C. J. Harold Cooper for William Alfred Johnstone and Grade II* listed, along with the area railings; listing number 1066003. It is a narrow, stone-fronted house with a high gable roofline. The porch has stone pillars and a coat of arms over the door. The coat of arms motto reads ‘Maxima Petenda’ which is Latin for ‘the most sought after’ or ‘the most desired’. The area railings are very ornate and there is a gate to the right which leads down to the basement. The building to the right has ‘Number One’ in large letters over the door and there is a bus stop outside. 3 Palace Gate on the left is part of an 1860s terrace which is Grade II listed; listing number 1066004. A two-tone car is parked on the road.
