Title
Houses in Lansdowne Crescent
Description
View of front elevations of terraced houses at 19-22 Lansdowne Crescent, Notting Hill. Part of two, five storey (including lower ground floor) terraces that were built in 1860-62 and designed by H. Wyatt. Each terrace consists of six bow-fronted stucco houses, with dentil cornice at the top, flanked at each end by two houses of similar design but with flat facades and the second floor windows have arched pediments. The buildings have large open porticos supported by Greek Ionic columns and a continuous iron balcony runs the length of the first floor. The rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix died at the self-catering Samarkand apartment-hotel, 22 Lansdowne Crescent, early on 18 September 1970. A street sign outside number 22 regarding junction safety reads "No waiting, loading, picking up, setting down, within yellow studs". A Renault 10 and a Fiat 127 hatchback (registration LUC 346K) are parked in the street. Numbers 19-28 were Grade II listed in 1984, listing number 1225246.
