Houses in Foulis Terrace
Description
View of 1-14 Foulis Terrace, South Kensington, looking south from the junction with Onslow Gardens. A number of cars and a motorbike are parked in the street. Foulis Terrace was built in the 1850s by Charles Delay, on land belonging to Brompton Hospital which had in turn once formed part of the Harrington estate. The hospital trustees purchased number 14 Foulis Terrace for the use of its chaplain, but there was little interest in the other houses, which the developers attributed to the proximity of the hospital. The houses are of four storeys (an extra storey was later added to number 10 and 11) with Doric porches. The houses remain largely unchanged, although the first-floor balcony on the side return of 14 Foulis Terrace has been rebuilt.
