Title
House in Queen Square
Description
A view of the front of the eighteenth-century Georgian brick built house at 7 Queen Square, Holborn. The four-storey building contains a number of Georgian features including sash windows with small panes of glass, tall sash windows on the first floor, arched window frames on the ground floor and an arched door frame with panelled door and a semi-circular fanlight with a sunrise pattern. Other features include iron railings bordering the ground floor and basement (with metal urns surmounting the central post and the two end posts) and metal railings fronting the first-floor windows. On the left, part of 6 Queen Square can be seen; it is an eighteenth-century Georgian house with a flat pediment surmounting the entrance door frame and a chimney stack with chimney pot on the roof. The building on the right is the Sir Charles Symonds House at 8-11 Queen Square, built in 1909 and designed by A.N. Prentice. It has neo-Georgian design features, such as the arch with an ornate gate and metal fanlight, stone dressing on the walls of the ground floor and tall sash windows on the upper floors. In front of number 6 can be seen the front of a car. All the buildlings survive. The house was Grade II listed in 1951 together with the railings; List Entry Number: 1139092.
