Description
Front elevation of 6 Cheyne Walk, Chelsea, a Grade II* listed house built in 1718. It is constructed of fine red brick cornice-mouldings and string-courses. The brick piers and stone ball finials at pavement entrance with large front doorway with its plain overdoor, fanlight and flight of stone steps. Sir Arthur Sullivan, English composer, attended a boarding school at number 6, in 1854. The house has a plaque to commemorate Margaret Damer Dawson who was an early head of the women's Police service. The cartoonist Gerald Scarfe now lives here.
