Shops in King's Road
Front elevations of shops situated between 430-440 King's Road, Chelsea. In the foreground, Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren's boutique SEX is clearly visible, with its chicken wire covered windows and large foam rubber sign above the door. The boutique was in operation between 1974-1976 selling the designs of McLaren and Westwood and becoming famous for selling t-shirts with provocative slogans and specialising in fetish and bondage wear clothing that defined the style of the punk generation. All four original members of the Sex Pistols were customers and Glen Matlock was a part-time store assistant; John Lydon also auditioned here to be the band's lead singer.
