Commercial and residential properties in Southampton Way
View of commercial and residential properties at 203-213 Southampton Way, Camberwell, looking south-east. Numbers 203-211 are substantial three-storey brick built properties. The ground floors are commercial properties and the upper floors are residential. The first floors have ornate triple arched windows and further ornate double arched windows on the second floor. At the left of the image is a partial view of The Shakespeare public house located at 203 Southampton Way and advertising Charrington's Toby Ale. To the right of The Shakespeare at 205 is a shop called Gadsden selling baby wear, fancy linens and offering weekly payment terms. Next at number 207 is a chemist's shop operated by G. Baker advertising Silvikrin Shampoos and Brylcreem hair products. At 209 is a newsagent and tobacconist operated by A. Swaffield advertising the News of the World newspaper, and Woodbines and Player's cigarettes. At number 211 is a butcher operated by E.A. Cameron. At the far right of the image is 213 Southampton Way, a two-storey building. The ground floor is occupied by a fishmonger advertising wet fish. The shop has a canopy which obscures the name of the business. None of the buildings in the image now exist and the land has been redeveloped and continues as a residential area.
