View of Queen's Road
Description
View from Peckham High Street looking east to Queen's Road, Peckham. On the right is a butchers shop of J.W. Onsey at 210 Peckham High Street with joints of meat, carcasses and sausages hanging outside and next to that at 212 Peckham High Street is the Red Cow public house (Barclay Perkins) with an ornate wrought iron lamp. On the left, at 191 Peckham High Street is an outlet of the Friern Manor Dairy, once described in The Illustrated London News as 'one of the largest dairy farms of the metropolis'. Next at 193 Peckham High Street is a Corn Factors and at 1 Queen's Road is a toy shop. At 3 Queen's Road is Rutland House coffee house and dining room. Further down the street a large sign advertises pianos. In the distance is the Wesleyan Methodist church. Many pedestrians and several two-wheeled horse-drawn carts are visible and there are tramlines in the centre of the street. All of the buildings in this picture were demolished and the area redeveloped when Peckham High Street was widened.
