Description
View of front elevations of buildings at 1-5 Hereford Retreat, Peckham. A terrace of two-storey, brick built houses at the end of a cul-de-sac. Numbers 4+5, furthest from the camera, appear to have been rebuilt. A low, wooden fence separates the small front gardens from a yard in which there is a single cast iron street lamp post and a small boat covered with a tarpaulin on a trailer. On the left are tall, double wooden gates leading to a builder's yard. In the background is the upper floors of the four-storey Unwin Close social housing block on the Unwin Estate and in the distance is the disused chimney of the London Essence Company (Lescol) Perfumery works. The terrace has since been demolished and the area is now a low-rise social housing estate with the Haymerle School behind.
