View of Boathouse Walk
Description
View of Boathouse Walk on the Surrey Canal (Peckham branch), looking north by Middle Street towards Camberwell. The building nearest the camera appears to be a shop as it has a sign advertising Zebo black-lead cleaner. Middle Street (now called Jowett Street) has a sturdy wooden fence and a gate across it and there is a cast iron street lamp at the end of the street. There is bunting strung across the street which may have been put up for George VI coronation on 12 May 1937. In the distance on the right is a timber shed next to Taylor's Bridge and Willowbrook Road. The canal was drained and the houses and warehouses were demolished in the 1970s and the area is now Jowett Street Park and Willowbrook Estate social housing.
