Courtyard in Leadenhall Street
Description
View of the courtyard of 122 Leadenhall Street, City of London, taken before its redevelopment in 1964. At the time the building was occupied by the head office of P&O Company which had been in operation here since 1840s. This building was designed by Beachcroft in a neo classical style popular at the time. Doric columns sit either side of the steps accompanied by standing gas lamps and plants in pots and a revolving door in the centre. Iron railings and large windows are straight ahead and diminish in size towards the top of the building. It is now the site of the Leadenhall Building, popularly known as the Cheesegrater, which was designed by Rogers, Stirk, Harbour and Partners and opened in 2014. Pediments are above the windows on the second floor. Now the site of the Leadenhall Building also know as the Cheesegrater designed by Rogers, Stirk, Harbour and Partners which opened in 2014.
