View of Wye Street
Description
Wye Street, Battersea, seen from the junction with Mantua Street and looking south towards Ingrave Street. The houses in view are 101 Mantua Street (right) and 88 Ingrave Street (left) which has a shop at ground-floor level. A pram stands on the pavement outside the shop, and what may be a Lyons van is parked in Ingrave Street. The area was cleared in the 1960s as part of the York Road area redevelopment. In the early 1970s a square was laid out on the site of these houses, originally containing shops, a library, doctor's surgery and the relocated Battersea Chapel.
