View of York Road
Description
York Road, Battersea, looking north from the junction with Creek Street. The building on the corner (right) is Falcon Brook pumping station. Fixed to buildings beyond are advertising hoardings and billboard posters, including one for Watney's, one with the word 'nurse', and another apparently showing a tank. A row of ground-floor shops is visible on the eastern side of York Road; these were cleared in the 1960s to make way for York Gardens. The large buildings on the left-hand side of the road form part of Belmont Works (candles and soap); some of these still survive. A double set of tramlines run up the road, and belisha beacons mark a pedestrian crossing.
