Description
Rear elevation from the east of Nine Elms Lane brick tile yard, Nine Elms, looking west. View of the rear yard from the roof of what was the office of A.H. Lavers. Ltd. Bricks, Lime, Cement and Whiting works. Wooden slats allow the air to dry the clay building products in the two whiting sheds seen alongside a storage area for bricks. Men in flat caps, a straw boater and bowler hat stand on and around a hand cart loaded with ridge tiles. In the foreground is a horse drawn cart loaded with barrels of chalk used to make whiting. In the top right is the mast of a ship moored in the docks of Mill Pond Bridge Wharf and in the background is a warehouse in Manor House Wharf. These buildings no longer exist and this is now the location of the Heathwall sewage pumping station of the Thames Tideway project.
