Title
Bolingbroke House, Battersea Church Road
Description
Bolingbroke House was the Manor House of Battersea, situated in a plot north-east of the parish church of Saint Mary Battersea, with lands that would eventually become Battersea Church Street. The house dated back to the late Elizabethan/early Stuart period but became known as Bolingbroke House in the eighteenth century as it was associated with its owner, Henry St John, first Viscount Bolingbroke and later members of his family. Much of the house had been demolished in the eighteenth century and what remained was the house's north wing and stables, though the estate became crowded with industrial buildings associated with the manufacture of alkali. The house was demolished in 1925.
