Broomwood House in Broomwood Road
Description
Broomwood House, Broomwood Road, Battersea. Rear elevation of a two-storey house with steps and pillars leading to the back door. A group of people are playing croquet in the well-kept garden. Broomwood House was a former home of the politician and abolitionist William Wilberforce, who lived there from 1797 until 1808, during the height of his successful campaign against slavery. The house was demolished in 1904 and replaced by Broomfield House which now stands on the site. A memorial tablet, installed on the side elevation of Bromfield House in the early twentieth century, commemorates this fact.
