View of Bartholomew Lane
Description
View looking south down Bartholomew Lane towards northside elevation of the Royal Exchange, City of London. The Royal Bank of Scotland building is partly visible to the left and the east side of the Bank of England to the right. Traffic is going in both directions along Bartholomew Lane and includes vans and saloon cars. A parked Volkswagen Type 2 van faces the camera. The Royal Exchange was built in Classical style between 1841 and 1844 by Sir William Tite. It was Grade I listed in 1950; listing number 1079134. The north-side elevation is pilastered with shops below and features two statues, one of which - of Sir Hugh Myddelton - can be seen in this photograph. A number of shopfronts are visible although the only readable signage is for the Exchange Sandwich Bar.
